GTA 5 Money works the same as it always has on the surface, but the GTA 5 stock market, coming in the form of the very maturely named BAWSAQ and LCN markets, have added a big shakeup to the best GTA 5 money making methods in-game.
If you're after some fast cash, you're in the right place. Below we'll explain how to make money fast in GTA 5 story mode, specifically by using Lester's stock market assassiantion missions in particular, which are by far the best way to make Trevor, Michael and Franklin's lives (and more importantly your story playthrough) a little easier, and probably a lot more fun.
This page doesn't tackle multiplayer though - but if you're on the hunt for more GTA 5 pages like this then our GTA 5 cheats and cheat codes guide is the place you'll want to go - do note, though, that there's no official money cheat in GTA 5. Anyone who says there is is telling porkies.

How to make GTA 5 money fast using the Stock Market and Lester Assassination Missions
If you want to make some serious money in GTA 5, one of the best things you can do is master the game's stock markets. Just like the real world markets though, you'll struggle to make money out of these systems until you have a fair bit of money to throw at them. The good news is that you'll accrue a pretty impressive amount of cash just by playing though (and completing) the game's main story, and generally playing it smart.
How Lester Assassination Missions work with the Stock Market in GTA 5
There's one specific method - the stock market assassinations - that garuantees you an enormous amount of money when done properly - in fact, do it right and you're likely to hit the actual hard cap of how much you can own in-game, which is over two billion dollars.
You'll reach a point in GTA 5's story, right after Trevor moves to the city, where Franklin is able to access a series of missions from Lester, all of which are based around the assassination of prominent corporation characters. By happy coincidence, each corporation has a competitive counterpart on the stock market, and the good or bad fortunes of one company is directly reflected in the fortunes of the other.
As you might imagine, this means you can exploit mission circumstances for your own advantage. You'll have no choice but to complete the first of Lester's missions - The Hotel Assassination - in order to progress the rest of the story, but after that you should not complete any others until you've finished the main campaign and saved up a massive wedge of cash (we won't spoil how much it is but... it's a lot).
You should then invest all of this money into the stock market as you work through Lester's missions, one by one, so that you can gain the highest possible rewards from your corporate interference.
You can of course stare at the list of companies on the market and reverse-engineer this for yourself, but we've created a cheat sheet for you below. Before you dive in though, there are a few other things to bear in mind. Here's the methodology step by step.
How to use Stock Market Assassinations to make money in GTA 5:
- Invest all of your money, on all three characters, into the company listed below in the 'Investment Before' column, right after you accept the mission from Lester.
- Complete the assassination.
- Wait until the stock reaches its peak price, listed in the 'Sell at return of' column below (this percentage return is listed on the 'Portfolio' page of the market on the in-game browser). The LCN and BAWSAQ take different amounts of time to reach their peaks.
- LCN - Peaks one in-game 'business day', or 24 in-game hours after the assassination, starting to decline shortly after that.
- BAWSAQ - Peaks immediately after the mission is complete, and starts to decline after around 24 in-game hours.
- Sell all of your stock, on all three characters, once it's hit that point, and then immediately invest it all again into the company listed in the 'Investment After' column below.
- Sell those stocks when it hits the 'Sell at return of' number listed next to it, like you did before, but note that the time it takes for the crashed stock to bounce back and hit that maximum percentage differs again:
- LCN - Bounces back to peak around five or six days after the assassination, declining to average shortly after.
- BAWSAQ - Bounces back to peak around two days after the assassination, again declining to avaerage soon after.
A couple of other tips to bear in mind: you can advance time by sleeping, and Trevor sleeps for the longest at 12 hours per nap. To skip straight to the money, simply select Trevor and repeatedly sleep, checking your Percentage Return in the Portfolio on your phone's browser each time you wake up.
This method also manually saves the game, and we recommend you create a new save slot each time you do it. That way, if you get a bit greedy and miss a stock's peak, you can always reload the previous save 12 hours earlier. Once you've moved on to a new assassination you can obviously save over the saves from the previous one to avoid them stacking up!
Finally, remember to complete the game's main story before beginning the Multi-Target Assassination and those after it! If you don't, you'll miss out on quite literally billions of dollars that there's no other way to make at anywhere near this speed or reliability.
GTA 5 Stock Market and Assassinations list
Mission | Investment Before | Sell at return of | Investment After | Sell at return of |
---|---|---|---|---|
The Hotel Assassination | Betta Pharmaceuticals (BAWSAQ) | 50% | Bilkinton Research (LCN) | 80-200% |
The Multi Target Assassination | Debonaire (LCN) | 60-90% | Redwood Cigarettes (LCN) | 300-400% |
The Vice Assassination | Fruit Computers (BAWSAQ) | 30-60% | Facade (BAWSAQ) | 20-40% |
The Bus Assassination | - | - | Vapid (BAWSAQ) | 100% |
The Construction Assassination | Gold Coast (LCN) | 80% | - | - |
When you've finished working your way through all of Lester's missions, and grabbed all of that lovely lolly, you should have a fortune to either invest back into the stock market (for some reason), or use to snap up every vehicle, business and building available in the game world.
A word of caution if you choose the former approach. If you decide to pour your ill-gotten gains back into the stock market, understand that there are no further guarantees when it comes to the return on your investments. If you decide to put your money into bricks and mortar instead you'll make less cash overall, but your money's much safer. We can still help you do a little better than this, however.
GTA 5 money: making money on the LCN stock market explained
![Assassination Assassination](/uploads/1/2/5/7/125762776/731542377.jpg)
The LCN stock market exists only in the single-player component of GTA 5, and we've got a few useful tips that will help you both minimise your risks, and get more back from your investments. It won't surprise you to learn that buying low and selling high lies at the core of your money-making strategy here, but there are certain things you should keep in mind about how exactly shares behave in the game.
First things first, make sure you have a decent amount of time to commit to each round of investment. Shares take approximately 45 seconds to update, and available gains are often only available within a very narrow window of opportunity. It's true enough that shares that tank disastrously will recover in time, but you won't be able to make use of your capital while it's tied up in poorly performing stocks.
Something else to keep in mind is that each LCN corporation on the market has a direct competitor. As one company suffers, the other gains, and vice versa. Here's a quick cheat-sheet that will help you keep track of who's fighting who within the game's economy.
LCN corporate rivals
Bilkington | Dollar Pills |
Burgershot | Up-An-Atom |
Clucking Bell | TacoBomb |
Cool Beans | Bean Machine |
ECola | Raine |
FlyUS | AirEmu |
GoPostal | PostOP |
MazeBank | BankOfLiberty |
Pisswasser | Logger |
RadioLosSantos | WorldwideFM |
Redwood | Debonaire |
Slaughter, Slaughter & Slaughter | Bullhead |
How then to make the most of this system? It depends first of all on how averse you are to risk, as well as the unique market fluctuations within your own game. To help you manage this delicate balance of risk and reward, it's essential that you learn to carefully study the performance graphs provided for each stock.
If a stock's performance has historically followed a gentle curve with a clear pattern associated with it, you can buy low, exercise whatever patience is required to turn a profit, and then get out when you feel confident the peak price has been reached. You won't get huge returns from using this strategy, but you should be able to make a tidy sum of money if you can identify several such stocks and play them simultaneously. Just be careful not to get too greedy, as even the most stable stocks can suffer a drastic drop from time to time.
It's easy to capitalise on Lester's stock market shenanigans, but you're always at risk of losing the money you invest in this much less predictable sandbox market. Always try to keep a broad portfolio of stocks in play to both maximise your profits and minimise your risks, and don't leave it too long to get out of a market. Keep enough of your money churning in the system, however, and you should find it easy to make far more than you lose from less fortunate investments.
GTA 5 money: making money on the BAWSAQ stock market explained
It's one thing to play the LCN stock market, where the prices are determined entirely by the circumstances of your own offline game, but it's quite another to speculate within the online, universal BAWSAQ market. The actions and investments of every other player connected to the Rockstar Games Social Club affect this second stock market, so it's essential to stay on your toes.
Here's a very specific example that was outlined by Rockstar just before the game launched. When the game first came out, it made a lot of sense to put your money into Ammu-Nation as soon as possible. Everyone getting stuck into the campaign at launch was collectively buying a massive amount of ammunition, driving the corporation's stock up as a result. The actions of the entire playerbase had a profound impact on the stock's performance.
It's because of this wide-ranging meta game that it's possible to achieve much a bigger return on your investment than if you only played with the offline markets - the risks, of course, are much greater. You should be able to get a return on your canny investments that's at least three times higher than those achieved on the LCN market, but the window of opportunity to capitalise on your money can be much smaller, and the risks of total collapse are much higher.
If you're going to get involved with the BAQSAQ market, it's essential that you monitor community activity closely, and make use of the latest price information available via the Rockstar Games Social Club site. The price values on the web service are updated just a little faster than they are in-game. It's not enough to ensure you crush the competition, but every little advantage helps in this ruthless financial world. For simpler fixes though, you can always refer to our main list of GTA 5 cheats.

New in town?
Forgotten your details? Grand Theft Auto 5, like its predecessor GTA 4, features a series of assassination missions. There are a total of five, which can only be completed by Franklin and are assigned to him by Lester. Today we are going to cover all five Assassination missions and guide you to Gold completion.
In the cut scene that introduces each assignment, Lester will give Franklin tips about which companies to invest in, and which should be avoided on the two in-game stock markets. This information is nothing short of insider trading, and if done correctly, players can earn more than $150 million for each of the three playable characters. With that in mind, we recommend that you do not complete any of the assassination missions prior to finishing the fourth and final heist in Grand Theft Auto 5, The Big Score! Waiting until you receive the money from this heist will help you maximize your profits on the stock market.
How do I complete the Hotel Assassination in GTA 5?
Pre-Requisite Missions: Fame or Shame
Contact Point: Lester
Gold Completion Requirements
-Sniper Kill Bonus
-Money Earned
Prior to beginning this mission, players should invest all of their money into Betta Pharmaceuticals, which can be found on the BAWSAQ stock exchange. Be sure to do this with all three of the playable characters.
After the cut scene, head to the right from the bench you were on. If you don't have a vehicle nearby, steal one. Once you have a ride, follow the yellow route on your radar until you reach the hotel. Head inside the parking garage and into the marker to trigger on-screen instructions.
When you regain control of Franklin, get back into the vehicle and head to the top floor of the parking garage. There is a countdown timer in the bottom right indicating when the target will leave the hotel, but you should have plenty of time. Park your car near the edge of the garage closest to the target and climb on top of it for a better view. In order to obtain the Gold completion status, you need to kill the target with your sniper rifle. It would also be wise to fit the weapon with a suppressor to avoid detection and a Wanted Level.
When the counter reaches zero, the target will exit the hotel. Take him out before he gets to the SUV. Try placing your crosshair just in front of him and let him walk into the shot. Once the target is down, get back into your vehicle. Drive clockwise around the top of the parking garage and head towards the north side of the roof. Gain as much speed as possible and hit the Stunt Jump to make your escape. Try to slightly angle your vehicle to the left side to avoid crashing into the bleachers. Once you clear the area, you'll receive the notice of Gold completion and a cool $9,000.

Gold Completion Requirements
-Speedy Killer Bonus
-Money Earned
Prior to beginning this mission, players should invest all of their money into Debonaire, which can be found on the Liberty City National stock exchange. Be sure to do this with all three of the playable characters.
Once the cut scene is complete, jump in your car (or borrow one) and make sure you have a sniper rifle for this mission. Equip the one that has a suppressor and follow the red GPS route indicated on your radar. Notice that you have a countdown timer in the bottom right corner. You need to complete this mission in the allotted time to avoid failure. You're headed to Vespucci Beach to assassinate a body builder. The target will show up as a red dot on your radar. Stop just before the beach, exit your vehicle and take aim with your Sniper Rifle. Take the target down with a headshot and get back in your car.
Each time you take down one of the targets, you'll get an updated red route marked on your GPS. The second target is to the north, on a yacht off the coast of Pacific Bluffs near the Pipeline Inn. Head there quickly, keeping the countdown timer in the back of your mind. There is a little bit of room for error, so don't worry too much if you get in the odd car accident. Once you arrive near the target's location, look at your radar. You might see the red indicator on your radar skip. He's off the cost on a yacht, and it looks like he's having a good time. Take aim with your suppressed Sniper Rifle and take him down. Head back to your car and on to the next target.
The third target is in West Vinewood, by the Eclipse Medical Tower. Lester tells you to look for dirty windows. Your target will be on a lift, washing windows. The red marker at his location lets you know he's above you. Just as you did before, exit your vehicle, take aim with your suppressed sniper rifle and take the target down with a headshot. Get back in your car and prepare to head to the next target.
The final target is on a Bati bike, and he's moving. Follow the red route marked on your GPS. Move as quickly as possible, but don't be afraid to slow down to avoid collisions. The target won't run unless you give him a reason. Pick up as much speed as possible and use your car to ram into his bike. He should fall off and die. If not, run him over again or get out and shoot him. Soon after, Franklin will give Lester a call and let him know the job is done. If you followed our guide, and moved quickly, you should have obtained the Gold completion for this mission, along with a cool $7,000.

Pre-Requisite Missions: The Multi Target Assassination, I Fought the Law
Contact Point: Lester
Gold Completion Requirements
-Clean Escape Bonus
-Money Earned
Prior to beginning this mission, players should invest all of their money into Fruit, which can be found on the BAWSAQ stock exchange. Be sure to do this with all three of the playable characters.
After the cut scene, grab a vehicle and follow the blue GPS route on your radar. You don't have a countdown timer, but it's never a bad idea to move quickly and lower your completion time. Once you get close to your destination, Franklin will spot the prostitute. Drive up on the hill on the opposite side of the street from the girl. Exit your vehicle and equip your sniper rifle with a suppressor. In order to achieve gold completion, you must escape without a wanted level. Zoom in on the prostitute who will be approached by several vehicles. If she turns the would-be customers away, they aren't your mark.
Wait until a convertible approaches. If the prostitute starts to get into the car, take the man down with a headshot. Immediately get in your car and leave the area. If you used the sniper rifle equipped with the suppressor, you shouldn't have a wanted level. Once you're a short distance away from the scene, Franklin will place a phone call to Lester letting him know the job is complete. If you followed our guide, you should receive the notification for Gold completion, as well as $5,000.

Hit and Run Bonus

After completing this mission, players should invest money into Vapid, which can be found on the BAWSAQ stock exchange. Be sure to do this with all three of the playable characters.
Following the cut scene, grab a vehicle and head to the bus depot by following the blue route on your radar. Get on the bus and follow the now yellow route on your radar to the first bus stop. Move along the marked route, making all the stops until the target boards the bus. Franklin will address him as Mr. Penny. The target will exit the bus and steal a bike. In order to achieve Gold completion, you need to use the bus to kill him. Follow the target and run him over when the opportunity presents itself. As long as the bus kills the target (and not Mr. Penny hitting a wall as a result of the bus) you will earn the Gold completion. Once you're done, exit the bus and leave the area. Franklin calls Lester to confirm that the mission is complete and receives $7,000 for his trouble.
How do I complete The Construction Assassination in GTA 5?
Pre-Requisite Missions: The Bus Assassination
Contact Point: Lester
Gold Completion Requirements
-No Fly Zone
-Money Earned
Prior to beginning this mission, players should invest all of their money into Gold Coast, which can be found on the Liberty City National stock exchange. Be sure to do this with all three of the playable characters.
After the cut scene, grab a vehicle and follow the yellow route on your GPS. Drive into the marker to trigger the mission, but do not go in through the front entrance. Drive around the block to Adam's Apple Boulevard. Drive your vehicle through the back entrance and run down the lone gunman standing guard. Drive a few more feet until you see the ramp to the elevator. Be careful, there's one more bad guy just to your left. As you exit your vehicle, equip a weapon with a suppressor and take him down.
Enter the elevator and press the right directional pad to go up. Once the elevator stops, hop off and prepare for battle. There's a total of six guards on this level. Continue to move up using the ample cover. Peek out and take enemies down one at a time as they present themselves. Don't hesitate to toss grenades to dig bad guys out of hard-to-reach places. There's no need to expose yourself to danger.
Once you've taken down the sixth gunman, head for the elevator indicated by the yellow dot on your radar. Be careful, there's two additional gunman on it, so take them down quickly and hop aboard. Take another ride, this time to the top floor.
When the elevator stops, immediately take cover behind the Grade C Construction Ply directly in front of you. There will be several bad guys engaging you. Peek from behind cover and take them down one-by-one. Your target, Enzo Benelli, is on the helicopter. Try to take it down with an RPG, but if you miss, just shoot the pilot using whatever weapons you prefer. Taking the helicopter down is part of the Gold Completion, so don't miss this part. Even with the target down, there might be a few stragglers. Take them down if they're a threat, otherwise it's time to leave the area.
You should notice a parachute on the ground next to you. If you have one, don't worry about it. If not, grab it. Run to the edge of the building and jump off. You can only free fall for a few seconds before you pull the chute. Try to avoid hitting light posts and buildings; it would be a shame to die now. Once you land, Franklin will call Lester to let him know the job is done. Being the final mission of the assassination chain, the $10,000 reward is very fitting.
If you followed our guide for this, as well as all the other assassination missions, you should have the Gold completion for each one. In addition, you should be extremely rich, allowing you to buy all the property available to the three playable characters in Grand Theft Auto 5.
